My Grand Father started his carpet business in Amritsar in 1942. He was both a manufacturer and contractor.", recalled Qamar Zaman, CEO of A-1 Oriental Rugs.
After the birth of pakistan, the family moved and set up its carpet business in Sialkot and Faisalabad. Throughout the 50s and 60s the company mainly concentrated on manufacturing and emerged as No. 1 producer of high quality Sootri Carpets which were in great demand in those days.
1990 onward, A-1 Oriental Rugs has also been very strong in export business. In keeping with the trend of the times it has been producing carpets with a different perspective. Chobi in different qualities such as 9/9, 10/10, 12/12. The firm is also making 16/16 using vegetable dyes and handspun yarn.

"Young generations in the West go for modern furniture", said Qamar Zaman. "They are the potentially new customers. It is these upwardly mobile class that the Pakistan Carpet industry should target. As per the mood of the market, 50% of A-1 Oriental Rug products comprise reproductions of classical designs such as Ziegler. But at the same time A-1 Oriental Rugs has been making 16/16 with improved colours and design to meet contemporary needs. And it is doing this very successfully.
Talking about the company future growth plans, Qamar Zaman said "We want our company to be known as providing the best possible facility for one-stop shopping to the customer. All goods available under one roof".
